Features of the Scheme
To address the shortage of manpower in the health sector, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has undertaken several initiatives, which include the implementation of a centrally sponsored scheme for establishing new medical colleges attached to existing district/referral hospitals.
Eligibility Criteria
To establish a new medical college by upgrading the existing district hospital, a minimum of a 200-bed district hospital is required. There should be no existing private or government medical college available in that district. Additionally, a detailed project report including construction, equipment, furniture, etc., of the proposed institution must be submitted to the Central Government. The State Government must also accept the responsibility of its share (40%)
